She fell in '08 and sustained an injury called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), most commonly referred to as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). She spent the better part of '08 in a wheelchair but has worked very hard to walk again. Although she has made this progress, she still has difficulties on a daily basis.

She has been back in her wheel chair (and crutches) off and on throughout the years. Pain medications do not diminish her pain at all. So her only option is to work very hard through her painful therapy sessions to walk again each time. She has amazing determination and strength.

RSD is something she most likely will have the rest of her life. There is no cure. A simple small bump can turn into RSD in any part of her body and cause her to lose use of the affected area which starts the entire painful therapy process all over again. There are good days and bad days. Her dream is to some day become a Doctor specializing in RSD to help children just like her. But for now, she just wants to be a "normal" kid again.

Experts believe that CRPS occurs as a result of dysfunction in the central or peripheral nervous systems.
